Your Yard Transformed

The local, family-owned landscape company that began with a garage, a mower and a dream has grown to well over 100 employees with two locations, a massive fleet of vehicles and equipment, and a prestigious list of both residential and commercial customers. We asked Chas Moscarino, president of Moscarino Landscape and Design, how he grew his company into one of the largest and most successful in the region. His answer was a little surprising. It isn’t because they always had the lowest price or got the job done in the least amount of time. It’s because of the Moscarino team and the level of service they offer their customers which is similar in quality to what you would expect to experience at a fine spa or resort.

Property Maintenance with no Apologies

“Our company is a lot like a concierge for your yard, whether you are a homeowner or a homeowner’s association. When we are maintaining your property, we advise you on what things should or should not be done,” Chas says. “When circumstances you may or may not be aware of become a problem for your lawn or landscape, we present you with our insight and, if necessary, a menu of optional solutions. We stay on top of what is happening out in your yard so you can spend more time enjoying it and less time attempting to resolve the problem yourself. Despite our strong focus on service, our clients nd themselves amazed at how reasonable the cost of our programs are.”

Every Backyard Can Be a Dream Backyard

“When you are ready for that dream backyard project, we’re here to not only design and build it, but also to advise you at every step on making any key improvements that you desire,” Chas explains. “You don’t create a backyard oasis every day, but we do. Our extensive experience with these projects allows us to provide you with valuable insight that creates a better result and saves money along the way. Improvements can be the construction of new outdoor areas to live and play in. It could also include new plantings to enhance your yard’s appearance or curb appeal. If you have an older home with landscape you love that has become overgrown and unmanageable, we will work with you to rehabilitate it in a manner that suits your tastes and lifestyle.”

Communication is Key

“We are passionate about communication,” Chas emphasizes. “If you call us before 5 p.m., we will return your call the same day. We believe it is important to listen carefully to our clients. That way we can deliver their project exactly as they desire. Just as important, we are careful to ask the right questions.”

When we maintain a yard, we make certain we learn exactly what the owner’s expectations are up front,” he adds. “Every customer is assigned a manager to answer questions or resolve any problems”

Prepare to Be Pampered

Once you contact Moscarino about your project, they are going to ask a lot of questions. During this consultation, it is all about you. They are going to want to know the size of your family living at home. The size of your extended family including frequent guests. Is your family active? They want to know your color preferences, what style you like inside and outside of your home. Do you have pets? Do you like to garden, or would you like your landscape low maintenance? What are your ideas? What does your dream look like? Did you bring pictures of what inspires you or sketches of your personal dream? Do you need to do it all now or would you rather do it in stages over several years as your family grows? Do you want privacy? What are your plant preferences? Do you cook and who does the grilling in your family? What is your budget? And, yes, they understand budgets and strive to give you the most for your dollar. Expect this level of attention to detail in every step of the process.

After the team has absorbed this information from you, they invite you back for the presentation of a 3D rendition of your dream yard as you requested. Then they usually present something else that includes some ideas and suggestions of their own.

Three Types of Inground Pools: What You Need To Know

With summer right around the corner, now is the time of year to begin thinking about having an in-ground pool installed at your home. There are three main types of in-ground pools, each with their own set of pros and cons. We’ll go over them here in order to help you make a decision.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools are those made completely of the material. The bottom and sides consist of a smooth type of fiberglass that holds water well. These pools come in an array of shapes and sizes, although they can’t be customized. Instead, you have to choose the model that you want. A fiberglass pool is extremely easy to care for and will cost you less over time than any of the other models. They are also durable and easy to install. Your main costs will be the pool itself, labor and installation costs, and then yearly care and maintenance.

Pros

  • Low maintenance.
  • Easy to install.
  • Very durable.

Cons

  • Not very customizable.

Vinyl Liner Pools

A vinyl liner pool is one of the least expensive options. This type consists of a vinyl liner (hence its name) that sits inside of the pool’s space. These liners are made to fit and can be customized to your ideal size and depth. However, they won’t last as long as fiberglass or concrete pools and have been known to harbor algae that grow on the walls.

Pros

  • The least expensive of the three
  • Easy to install
  • Customizable

Cons

  • Potential algae growth on the liner itself
  • Will need to be replaced regularly
  • Easily damaged by sharp objects

Concrete/Gunite Pools

Concrete pools are made of poured, molded concrete. They are custom-made for your yard and can be designed to fit your desired depth and size. Since the concrete is molded, patterns can be pressed into the surface, making your pool look very nice. However, concrete pools require quite a bit of maintenance to keep algae at bay. They make up for this with their overall durability.

Pros

  • Will last for many years if properly maintained
  • Very customizable, almost limitless options

Cons

  • Can take a long time to install
  • The most expensive type of pool

Now that you know about main types of these inground pools, each with their own set of pros and cons, are you ready to have one built in your yard? If so, call us today!

Why Is Lawn Maintenance Important?

Lawn maintenance is a series of necessary tasks that include mowing your lawn, adding fertilizer, and doing everything required to make the patch of grass surrounding your house as healthy and green as possible. Why do you need to tackle regular lawn maintenance? Here are some of the more important reasons.

Cities and Housing Developments Require Proper Maintenance

Let’s start with the simplest reason why lawn maintenance matters – it’s the law. Almost every city has a law in its books regarding lawn care. If your grass gets to be too long, and you ignore the many warnings given out by the city, they’ll fine you, mow your lawn themselves, and then charge you for it. Also, housing developments, especially those with homeowners associations, have rules about lawn maintenance. This is why many of them choose to hire a landscaper to handle the job for you.

Your Lawn Adds Oxygen to the Atmosphere

Did you know that every green, living organism on the planet adds oxygen to the atmosphere? These plants, lawns included, take in carbon dioxide and send out oxygen. It also traps pollutants during this process. A lawn that measures roughly 50 feet by 50 feet produces enough oxygen to maintain a family of four. Obviously, this amount goes up if your lawn is bigger. However, if your lawn isn’t properly cared for, then it isn’t as effective as it should be.

Increases Your Property Value

It goes without saying that curb appeal is crucial. If you’re trying to sell your house, then nothing is better than making every inch of the outside look nice. This includes your landscaping. Potential buyers will be more likely to consider a house with a nice lawn and some healthy plants. Plus, the quality of the lawns will make the entire neighborhood look better.

Produces an Air Conditioning Effect On The Outdoors

Yes, you read that right. Many people are aware of the fact that trees create indoor shade, making them less likely to need to use air conditioning. However, your front lawn can cool down the outdoors. Studies have shown that eight yards full of green grass have the effect of creating 70 tons of air conditioning. This is quite a bit!

Pushing The Limits With Fabulous Fire Pits

Depending on where you live in Ohio, you’re probably allowed to have a fire pit in your backyard. Before you hire a company to build one, you first need to know what they’re capable of. Here are some great fire pit suggestions.

Portable versus Permanent Fire Pits

There are two main types of fire pits. Some are portable, which means that they can be carried around your yard from place to place. These pits tend to be made from metal, and are either fire bowls or tables. The other types of fire pits are permanent. They are built into a certain section of your yard and are usually made of stone or bricks. This latter type is quite nice, and they can add a level of sophistication to your backyard.

Do You Want To Burn Wood or Gas

You also have a choice of between wood and gas burning fire pits. There are pros and cons to each. A gas fire pit works kind of like a grill. The gas is kept in a hidden spot on the pit, and it turns on with the flick of a switch. Wood burning fire pits require a bit more work on your part since you’ll need to gather the wood and know how to build a fire. However, few things smell as nice as burning wood.

Placement Matters

When you’re planning your fire pit, you also need to determine where you’d like it to be located in your yard. Some people like to have a fire pit built into their back deck. This isn’t a good idea since wooden decks are quite flammable. All it takes one flying ember and you have a problem on your hands. Instead, aim to keep at least ten feet in between your house and the fire pit. If your yard is quite large, then feel free to make this distance even greater.

Making Your Fire Pit a Cozy Spot in Your Yard

A fire pit surrounded by a nice set of chairs is ideal. Even better is a setup that includes a small table (great for preparing s’mores) and other comforts, such as outdoor lighting. You need to ensure that the lighting enhances the fire, and doesn’t distract from it. This is why you need a professional to help with the process.

There’s nothing like a fire pit to provide a comfortable place to relax on summer nights. Are you ready to have one built in your yard? If so, call us today!
