Why You Should Include Flowers in Your Commercial Landscaping

Commercial landscaping usually consists of grass. At least, that’s the number one thing that businesses want in their yards – a nice healthy lawn. Flowers rarely come to mind, even though they have a number of benefits. Before you settle for “just grass” in front of your commercial property, consider having flowers planted for these important reasons:

They Brighten Up the Area and Make Your Business Look Good

You want to make a good first impression on everyone who goes through the front door of your business. Whether those people are potential or existing clients or even future employees, they’ll see those flower beds and end up with a positive view of your company. It’s hard to hate a business that has such nice rosebushes or daffodils, right? On top of that, flowers add a little brightness to the space. They’re cheerful and provide a nice contrast to the brick buildings and asphalt parking lots of commercial and industrial neighborhoods.

They’re Easy to Care For

Flowers are amazingly easy to care for – not that you’ll be the one taking care of them. That job goes to your commercial landscaping company. What we mean here is that they aren’t expensive to maintain. Most flower beds need to be weeded on occasion, and the flowers need to be deadheaded (removed from the plant) when they begin to wilt. They might need a good dose of fertilizer in the spring and some thinning or pruning in the fall, but that’s it.

Some of the Best Flowers to Request

There are some great flowers that should be added to the small gardens in front of commercial properties. They include daffodils, which are bright yellow and bloom in springtime. These are bulb plants, which mean that they’re extremely easy to care for. Others include pansies and violas, both of which come in many different colors and like a lot of sunshine. If you have the space for a tree (remember that you aren’t limited to flowers in the ground) and want one that flowers in the spring, consider planting a dogwood or an eastern redbud. They produce nicely scented flowers once winter ends, and turn amazing colors in the fall.
